COULD BE HOW TO APPLY BUTTON
To apply for a grant of up to £1,000, please follow these steps:

  1. Read through the criteria and previously funded groups to decide if your group is in line with what Bristol Redistro is looking to fund.
  2. Make sure that someone in your group is up for coming to the funding day (see point 5 below). All short-listed are groups invited to the funding day and will receive a grant of up to £1,000.
  3.  11th October - 13th November: Applications:
    1. Fill in the short application form and email it to us (info@bristolredistro.org) by midnight Saturday 13th November 2021.
  4. We aim to tell you in around 2 weeks after the deadline if your application has been short-listed and to invite you to the funding day if so.
  5. Funding day: Saturday 4th December:
    1. You will need to come to the funding day to receive your grant. The funding day is an opportunity for groups to learn from one another and to decide together the best way for the grant money to be shared out. NB: The groups will decide how to share the money.
    2. It may happen online or in person depending on covid restrictions at the time.
  6. We ask that participating groups give us feedback on the application process and suggestions for how to improve future funding rounds.

Our decision-making process involves previously funded groups short-listing applications and the final decisions being made by the short-listed applicants. We will therefore be sharing your applications with these groups. Please let us know if you have any questions about this.

Our aim is to continue fundraising up until the funding day. We’d like to let people know which groups have been short-listed and feel this might encourage more people to donate. If you are short-listed we will check with you if its ok to share this publicly.

Please contact us if you need any help or advice on filling in the application. We may be able to complete the application over the phone with you or in person, but as we are all volunteers this will depend on our availability. The sooner you get in touch the better!

Bristol Redistro not only aims to redistribute money, but also power. People who have money to give away get to choose which causes are important and which deserve their money. This gives them a lot of power. We want to take the decision-making power away from those with money by letting the groups that have applied for the money decide themselves how it is shared out. By bringing groups together we also hope to give people working on different issues the opportunity to make new contacts and learn from each other.
Bristol Redistro process:

  • We ask for groups to apply for money
  • We check that the applications meet the criteria (not too strictly)
  • We invite the groups that have met the criteria to come together for a day to decide together how the money should be shared between them
For the first funding round, we used a process similar to that of Edge Fund, which involves all the groups getting to know each other's work and then a simple voting process at the end to decide how the money is shared out. All groups receive some money, some may get more than others. If any groups applying for money have ideas to share or would like to join us in planning the day we'd very much welcome this! You can find out more about the Edge Fund process in this short video. You can also read reports from groups who have attended a funding day in news section of Edge Fund's website.

This was a pilot project. If there is interest from the Bristol community in continuing past the first funding round, we'd like to ask the funded groups to look again at how the project is being run as we recognise that setting the criteria and process is another way of using power over others. Edge Fund's criteria and process, which we've used as a guide, was designed by both donors and applicant groups.
